New Standard Recognises Diversity Throughout Fabrick

Fabrick Housing Group has become one of the first organisations within the UK to achieve a new kitemark standard for its diversity policies.

Based in Middlesbrough, Fabrick is among the first 20 companies in the country to be awarded the Investors in Diversity standard from the National Centre for Diversity.

The assessments, conducted in April, involved 41 members of staff, stakeholders and customers of Fabrick being interviewed.

Fabrick Housing Group, the umbrella organisation which oversees the work of Tees Valley Housing and Erimus Housing, manages more than 15,000 homes from York to Newcastle and employs 720 people.

Assessors found the organisation to have wholeheartedly embraced diversity throughout its operations, offering all stakeholders a feeling of opportunity and responsibility to learn and develop self awareness on diversity issues.

Bringing people from diverse backgrounds into the mainstream organisational culture and having leaders and managers who were committed to embracing relevant issues was also seen as a strength.

Saliah Hameed, Fabrick’s diversity manager, said: “The assessors recognised a widespread plan, desire and attitude towards embracing diversity in all its forms within Fabrick. This was found to be the case from the top of the organisation, right down through the ranks, backed up by clear information systems that measure the impact of the work on diversity.

“Fabrick Housing Group works at the heart of the communities it serves, and these are many and diverse, so these issues are vital to what we want to achieve. Therefore, this endorsement is a clear sign that we are getting it right when it comes to diversity both within our own organization and when dealing with stakeholders and customers.”
